Neal has 20 years’ experience working in the sport, recreation and open space industry. Neal has held a number of different positions with government organisations at all levels, including Federal, State, Territory and Local Government, as well as some short stints with private companies. After completing a 21 year career with the Australian Regular Army Neal went on to become a Recreation Planner with the Queensland Government, followed by stint as a Special Project Officer with the Directorate of Sport with the Act Government, Sport and Recreation Coordinator with Campbelltown City Council in Sydney, where he undertook recreation, play and open space planning duties whilst also managing the Sport and Recreation team and delivering sport, recreation and play infrastructure, then down to Parks Victoria where he was the Parks Planner for Victoria, and finally, is currently the Sport and Recreation Project Manager with Glenorchy City Council in Hobart, where his 20 years’ experience in recreation infrastructure delivery is bringing outstanding outcomes for the community.
Neal has sat on the PLA National Advisory since 2012, providing policy direction and guidance to the industry through PLA. Neal is also one of the first Australian’s to receive the Certified Parks & Leisure Professional (CPLP) industry certification from the University of Indiana.
